Flixora
Why Martins Osuofia built Flixora, published in NY Weekly as the platform opened global film distribution to Nollywood filmmakers.
Read the published articleBackground
Flixora is a global film distribution and streaming service for independent filmmakers. Creators keep ownership of their films and earn from views, rather than handing the rights to a studio. Its founder, Martins Osuofia, is a film producer and actor who built it after watching finished films, some of them his own, struggle to find an audience once production wrapped.
The brief
A distribution model is hard to explain in a sentence, and most readers had never heard of the company. The piece had to make the idea clear to them, and it had to run as Flixora opened to Nigeria on 1 September, alongside an online short film festival and three Nigerian artists featured in the launch.
How we approached it
We built the feature around why Martins started Flixora rather than around a list of features, then carried the Nigerian launch, the festival and the producer programme through as what that reason looks like in practice. The piece was approved before it went live.
What it does now
The feature is live on NY Weekly as a permanent, indexed article. It explains how Flixora works and how filmmakers can join, which gives Flixora something substantive to point to at launch, when people are first deciding whether to trust a new platform.
What a feature does, and what it does not
A published article is not a lead generation channel and we will not pretend otherwise. What it does is change what exists when someone looks you up: a real, dated, indexed piece on a publication, written about your work, that keeps surfacing long after it ran.
That matters at the moment someone is deciding whether to take you seriously. It does not replace having something worth writing about.
